About Our Private Pilot Course

Overview

As a Cessna Pilot Center and a FAA Approved Part 141 flight school, Ocean Aviation is your best choice for all your flight training. Being a Part 141 Flight Academy means we are overseen by the FAA and must maintain a level of professionalism most flight schools do not choose to attain. As a Cessna Pilot Center, we offer a computer-based curriculum that is recognized by the aviation community as one of the finest learning experiences available to perspective students. The Cessna Pilot Center private pilot course is available only at Cessna Pilot Centers.

We believe that the most important rating you will attain is the private pilot certificate, as that is the basis upon which all your other flight training will be built. It is the foundation. Don’t settle for less than professional flight training available at a FAA Approved Cessna Pilot Center. Don’t settle for less than Ocean Aviation.

Train at the Beach

Ocean Aviation is four miles from the world famous resort of Ocean City, Maryland. Live at the beach and train above the most beautiful resort on the east coast. Our weather is perfect for your flight training all year around. Plus, we are less than an hour’s flight time from the most complex airspace in the country. We offer real world flying experience and a vacation lifestyle.

Our Airspace

Ocean Aviation is based at the Ocean City Municipal Airport. When choosing a flight school, so many things should be considered. One of the biggest considerations should be, can I train in the airspace where the flight school is based. Is it overcrowded, is it restricted? Do I have to spend my flight training funds to fly away from the school to somewhere where training is permitted?

At Ocean Aviation, the airspace above and within 50 miles in all directions is class “E” airspace. That means the area around our airport; in fact, right above our airport is perfect for your flight training.

Surprisingly, so many flight schools are based in congested areas where flight training is prohibited. Your time spent in the aircraft flying is costly and should be spent training, not flying away from your school to begin your lesson.

Accommodations

Ocean Aviation has beautiful resort style housing available all year around. Your bedroom, living areas and grounds are four-star accommodations. And in an area where hotels typically charge in excess of four hundred dollars per night, we have reserved your accommodations at just $50.00 per night. Hard to believe as you sit out on the lawn, enjoying the sea breeze, as the sunsets, you are finally, truly living your dream.

Our Staff

Our staff of FAA and Cessna certified flight instructors are ready to prepare you to become a private pilot and then onwards, toward advanced ratings if you choose. Training with Ocean Aviation will not only prepares you to earn your private pilot license but also to be a safe and competent pilot.

Our one on one instruction is second to none. Our chief flight instructor will insure consistent training standards are maintained at each of your stage checks.

What You Need To Get Started

The FAA Private Pilot Certificate is a certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, which allows a person to legally operate an aircraft with passengers and baggage.

In order to earn a private pilot certificate, a student pilot must complete a knowledge test, pass a FAA medical examination and then pass a practical flight test, which we refer to as your “check ride” with a designated flight examiner.

Prior to enrolling in our private pilot course, you will need to complete your FAA medical examination. We can guide you through the process. If you are not an American citizen, you will also need to complete a TSA screening process. No worries, we can guide you through that process as well.

Once TSA screening is complete and your medical/student pilot certificate is issued, you are ready to enroll in our Part 141 private pilot course. Enrollment in our Cessna Private Pilot curriculum includes being listed with Cessna in our program, acquiring all your course material, which includes your new flight bag, and meeting your instructor and our staff for the first time.

Now the learning begins..

Before you decide that it seems too difficult, let us assure you that we are there not only to teach but also to guide you. From your initial interview, your first instrument flight, your first instrument cross country, throughout this experience, our professional staff will be there to answer questions and help make this not only a learning experience but a fun experience that will change your life.

    1. Be at least 17 years old to acquire the rating.
    2. Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
    3. Posess at least a third-class FAA medical examination
    4. Pass the written aeronautical knowledge test.
    5. Receive flight training from a certified flight instructor.
    6. Completion of the training including a minimum of 35 hours of dual flight instruction and a final endorsement from your Certified Flight Instructor stating that you meet all requirements and are prepared for a practical flight test.

Time and Hours

The Federal Aviation Administration, under part 141 of the Federal Aviation Regulations has set a minimum time for an applicant to obtain a instrument rating  at 35 hours. With each of our students, our goal is to provide the most professional training available and complete your training within 35 to 40 hours. Almost all candidates in our FAA Approved 141 program will complete the course in no more than 40 hours of flight training. To accomplish this, our students should be prepared to immerse themselves in the instrument pilot course to the extent required to move rapidly though the training. Most candidates will fly between two and three hours daily and will allow an additional two to four hours for computer based training. Most candidates can expect to complete our course in fourteen to twenty days. Fourteen days can be possible for those seeking accelerated training but unforeseen delays such as weather can impact your training.

Financial

Your training costs to obtain your private pilot certificate is $7995.00. Included in your tuition is your Cessna private pilot course, flight bag, and materials necessary to complete your course, knowledge exam, and private pilot practical test. Everything is included except your accommodations.

When comparing costs, be sure all costs are included. Do they include your knowledge test? Do they include your flight test? Do they include materials, books, We include everything.

Tuition is based upon student enrollment and an uninterrupted training schedule. Students who are not able to enroll in full time training are welcome to attend but training costs cannot be guaranteed.

If you need accommodations. No problem, resort style student-housing package is just $1250.00 for up to twenty-one days.

As an eventual career path or simply a way of life, there is nothing quite like the thrill of flying!
